On 26 August 2020, Ontario has sent 703 invitations to the Express Entry candidates in the Human Capital Priorities stream. The invited applicants then have the potential to get a permanent residency status through the Provincial Nomination Program. In this draw applicants who were having experience in the targeted occupations were specifically targetted.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score needed in the Express Entry program to get an invitation was 466 and 475. Once an applicant has received a nomination from the province, an additional 600 CRS points are added to their profile. By getting these additional points the applicant can be guaranteed an ITA (Invitation to Apply) in the corresponding Express Entry draw. These additional points go to any applicant with a valid nomination from any province in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
The occupations that were targeted in the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) so that the selected candidate can apply for the provincial nomination are given below:
- NOC 0601-Corporate Sales Managers
- NOC 0111-Financial Managers
- NOC 0124-Advertising, marketing, and public relations managers
- NOC 1111-Financial auditors and accountants
- NOC 1114-Other financial officers
- NOC 3132-Dietitians and nutritionists
- NOC 3124-Allied primary health practitioners
- NOC 3012-Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses
- NOC 1122-Professional occupations in business management consulting
For getting a nomination from Ontario, the applicant should apply in the Human Capital Priorities Stream with at least 1 year of working experience in the above-stated occupations. The working experience will only be valid if it is obtained within 5 years from the date of filing the application. The experience gained can be of Canada or overseas but with one condition only that it should be continuous. It means that there should have been no break in employment for a one-year duration. However, it is acceptable to have a back to back jobs in the domain with different employers.
The applicant’s occupation that makes them eligible for an ITA from Ontario must be the primary occupation that they have specified in the Express Entry Profile.
Now let’s talk briefly about the Express Entry Program.
Express Entry program is an online application profile management system. This program primarily targets three immigration streams. These streams are:
Federal Skilled Worker Program
Federal Skilled Trades Program
Canadian Experience Class
The candidate applying in the Express Entry program is given points based on their profile known as the CRS score. This CRS score uses factors or parameters like education, language proficiency, age, and working experience.
Applicants with the highest scores are invited through Express Entry draws.
The OINP uses this Express Entry Pool for finding the candidates that fit their immigration streams.
For the year 2020, the federal government of Canada has made an allocation of 7600 primary applicants to migrate through the OINP. The total allocation includes 250 nominations from the National Occupation Classification (NOC) skill level C or temporary workers in intermediate skilled occupations.
Stats from the previous year 2019 state that around half of Ontario’s 7391 PNP applicants were from the Express Entry Program.
