On June 2, 2020, the latest draw of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) was held. This is the largest draw held in the Provincial Nominee Program since March 2020. In this draw, a total of 279 invitations were sent to candidates with 38 invitations issued under the entrepreneurs’ stream for nomination to apply for Canada PR Visa. This draw has issued 271 invitations to Skilled and International Graduate applicants under the Provincial Nominee Program.
The invitations issued in this draw were broadly given to candidates who have applied under the two immigration categories of the BC PNP. These categories are:
- Express Entry British Columbia (EEBC)
- Skills Immigration Category
The minimum score required for getting an invitation varies with each category.
The following were the cutoff required for EEBC immigration category:
- Skilled Worker: 105 points
- International Graduate: 105 points
Under the EEBC category, the applicants were required to have a valid Express Entry profile. If the applicant is able to score a provincial nomination, they will be awarded a boost of 600 points on their total CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score. Getting these points will guarantee an ITA (Invitation To Apply) from the province. After that, the applicant can submit the ITA for forwarding the process of Canada PR visa.
The minimum cut-off score for the three Skill immigration subcategories are given below:
- Skilled Workers: 105 points
- International Graduate: 105 points
- Entry Level and Semi-Skilled: 81 points
The impact of Coronavirus on the provincial draws can be indicated by the BC PNP draw. In this draws the occupations related to sales and services were excluded because of the pandemic. In fact, this is the first time in the two months that British Columbia has sent an invitation to the entrepreneurial stream candidates. A total of two draws were held for the entrepreneur stream by the BC province in the year 2020 till now.
The cut off for the BC PNP’s Entrepreneur Immigration Base category was 121 points with a total 29 invitation being issued. The major motive behind the Entrepreneur Base category is to encourage established entrepreneurs to come to the province to start a new business or to buy an existing one. The main criteria upon which the applicants are assessed in this category are:
- Net worth
- Education
- Business Plan
- Investment Amount ( for Business)
- Business Experience
BC PNP’s Entrepreneur Immigration- Regional Pilot Category also issued 9 invitations to the candidates. The minimum cutoff for this category was 118 points. This specific pilot program was launched in the year 2015 with a motive of helping smaller communities to start a new business in the province. Although the applicants under this category are assessed in the same manner as that of the Base program. The only difference comes in the business investment and net worth factors.
