Ontario Mayors Talks About Re-Opening Canada-US Borders

As there is no official date has been decided in the recent meeting with the Federal government and border-city mayors but there has been talk about that June 22 will be a date to watch.

In this meeting with the Ontario mayors from the bordering cities and the public safety ministers suggested that the travel restrictions might start to ease on the southern end of the borders by the end of June.

Mayor Drew Dilkens from Windsor told that while the feds actually did not provide an official date but they are expecting that enough Canadian citizens will be vaccinated by June 21. This will result in easing the travel restrictions between U.S. and Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested in May that 75% of the Canadian population will be vaccinated. This will result in a decrease in the Coronavirus cases and taking back the proposed restrictions.

As we all know that Coronavirus cases have been low in the U.S. since March 2020 and in Canada since October 2020. As per the statistics, around 41% of U.S. citizens have been fully vaccinated and about 58% of the Canadian populations have received the first dose with around 5% of the population being fully vaccinated.

Niagara Falls mayor, Jim Diodati, said that Bill Blair ( Public Safety Minister) is expecting that 75% of Canadians will receive their first dose and around 20% will be fully vaccinated by June 21. It is predicted that 75% of the Canadian population will be fully vaccinated by July 21. Jim Diodati also said that the federal government is also looking at opening the borders and is even optimistic that all the reopening plans will soon enact.

James Cudmore ( Public Safety Spokesperson) said that the improved health conditions and the increase in the vaccination process are working as an opportunity towards easing the borderline and travel restrictions. James also said that the present conditions can be extended again as per the situations in the upcoming three weeks.

James also quoted Minister Blair that all the restrictions can be lifted safely based on the advice of public health officials and the evaluation of the present conditions.

Prime Minister Trudeau quoted that Canada is in no hurry to open the borders and the Canadian citizens are also in no hurry as per the poll of Angus Reid. As per the survey, they are willing to open the border till September.

Reading all this that there is a silver lining that can be seen in this situation. We can hope that this pandemic will soon end and we can lead a normal life like before.
