Candidates were invited to apply for a provincial nomination in order to apply for a Permanent Residency (PR) visa in the Labour Impact, Express Entry, and Business Impact streams.
Prince Edward Island released the details of the draw held on March 18, 2021.
A total of 150 invitations were issued by the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). Most of the invitations were sent to the Express Entry and Labour Impact candidates, around 140 out 150 invitations. The remaining 10 invitations were sent to Business Impact candidates who were having a minimum threshold of 70 points.
The Canadian Immigration department allows Canadian provinces to select eligible immigration applicants in order to meet their labour market requirements. This requirement is to get the provincial nomination through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Some of the time, PNP is also aligned through the Express Entry Program as well. As per the stats, Canada is aiming to admit 80,000 new immigrants through PNP this year.
Express Entry Category:
The PEI PNP’s Express Entry category is actually an enhanced PNP, meaning it works with the Federal government Express Entry program.
Express Entry is an application management program that manages the profile of three major economic class immigration programs. They are:
Federal Skilled Worker Program
Federal Skilled Trades Program
Canadian Experience Class
As per factors like age, educational qualifications, working experience, and language proficiency; the applicant’s profile is ranked on the basis of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
A total of 600 additional points are awarded to the applicant who receives a provincial nomination. These points effectively guarantee the candidate to receive an ITA for the permanent residency visa.
If the applicant wants to be considered for a provincial nomination from PEI, they must create an EOI profile with the PEI PNP.
EOI profiles are ranked based on the provinces’ unique points system. The highest scoring applicant is then invited through the monthly draws.
The PEI PNP does not actually provide a breakdown of how many Express Entry and Labour Impact applicants were invited from each category and also the minimum EOI requirement.
Labour Impact Stream
This stream is for foreign nationals who are in possession of a valid job offer in PEI. It is then divided into three streams:
Skilled Workers
Critical Worker
International Graduate
An Expression of Interest must be filed by the candidate in order to receive the provincial nomination from the Labour Impact category.
Business Impact Stream
The applicants in this category must meet the minimum provincial score requirement so that they can proceed forward with the application. The score requirement is in fact different for every draw. The invitations the PEI issued in this draw were sent under the Work Permit Stream, this s for foreign entrepreneurs who are willing to own and operate a business in Prince Edward Island.
