Express Entry Draw: 5000 CEC Applicants Invited

Canada still continues to cater to the announcements to welcome 108500 new immigrants through the Express Entry-managed programs.

On March 18, 2021, Canada invited around 5000 Express Entry candidates to apply for the Permanent Residency (PR) visa.

The invited applicants must be eligible for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and must have a score of at least 449 CRS for receiving the Invitation to Apply (ITA). The basic eligibility requirement for the CEC applicants includes full-time employment from a designated Canadian employer for the period of one year, and with intermediate language proficiency skills among other criteria.

The applicants invited in this draw had a minimum CRS score of 449 and have submitted their application in the Express Entry pool before the date of 19 February 2021. The time period was as per the UTC of the tie-breaker rule.

This CEC draw is an indication that IRCC has been prioritizing applicants who are already in Canada as the travel restrictions are still in place. As per the statistics, almost 77% of Express Entry applicants are eligible for the CEC program according to the IRCC data of March 8.

As the travel restrictions are still in place, the Canadian Immigration department in order to meet the immigration targets for the year 2021, has been focusing on the applicants who are already in Canada. IRCC has been holding PNP and CEC-specific draws.

Previous Express Entry draw that took place on 17 March, specifically targetted Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) applicants. This is another group that is having strong ties with Canada as well. PNP candidates must demonstrate that their skills are as per the province labour market and that they can support the province economy as well. The PNP candidates have a higher CRS score as they get 600 additional CRS points for receiving a nomination from one of the provinces.

This draw is actually the first time Canada has held a specific CEC draw since February 13, where IRCC invited every eligible CEC candidate from the Express Entry pool, taking the total number of invitations to 27,332.

Because of this record-breaking draw, the total number of ITAs issued for the year 2021 has now reached 43,840. By this time in the year 2020, IRCC only issued 19,368 ITAs only.

As the number of invitations sent got way behind in the year 2020. As we all know that Canada has already committed to bring around 401,000 new immigrants for the year 2021. Out of these allocated numbers, 108500 are already expected to come through the Express Entry-managed programs.
